Re: How robust PG boots are?

After some time of using them and seeing them (ab)used I am surprised how durable they are. Yes, occasional rivet needs a replacement but otherwise if you use them for touring without much rock mountaineering they do last.

I will post an article about this since Reiner Thoni skis them all the time with any skis since he got them. He even skied Mt Robson on Pierre Gignoux ;)

Hi Michael,

How robust are the Pierre Gignoux boots? I would say surprisingly robust. Are they as robust as an all plastic boot--I don't think so; The Pierre Gignoux's are a formula 1 race car; They are what you want when you want the lightest, stiffest best performing boot out there.

Michael,
thanks much for posting this article- I've been combing through various skimo blogs, searching for input on carbon boots as a replacement for my F1s, a boot I use (in combination with my Trab Duo FreeRandos) for resort skiiing as well as touring. I've only raced once- after moving to Germany last year- but am willing to put out the cash for these after reviewing your comments here and on wildsnow.com regarding the improvement in skiability. I have but one question- how robust are they for full-time use? Thanks for your time,
Mike

Hey cool... the tongue looks just like the one I formulated for my F1's. Nice pictures, especially the last one.
